cari makan punya pasal

saya dapati artikel the changing face of malaysia oleh ahvincent dalam laman web mstar hari ini amat menjengkelkan sekali, terutama ayat-ayat berikut "...however, with the mass exodus of the former races, the country is fast losing important entrepreneur skills. Has or will the Malays be able to fill the vaccum? This remains to be seen as the depletion of skills and capital continues...". di bawah adalah respons saya terhadapnya:

-------------------------------

i am legally, culturally and linguistically a malay and a muslim of arab, chinese and malay descent. i think (lesliefong and jasso/8-Apr-2010) are right and on the dot.

with sadness and without malice, all these while, the majority of malaysian chinese see themselves more of a chinese than malaysian, voted in elections and lived their life on the basis of cari makan and being chinese, not on higher values and the principles of justice, truth, good character, law etc etc. everything is game as long as there's profit in it is the creed and motto.

they put those people who can provide them with the cari makan thing into power, regardless of whether they are morally upright, wise, true, honest or not. more often than not, these people are cari makan people themselves and with time their numbers get bigger by the day.

with power and an ever growing appetite to cari makan, we have a malaysia that we see today - a nation devoid of the sense of responsibility, values, law and decorum. who should the chinese blame then but themselves for they've got the leaders and situation that they deserved.

i am no racist, i am more arab and chinese in blood than malay, and all these while, as far as i can remember, my family have never voted for umno-barisan nasional in any election or supported its race and class based politics, policies and all. never.

and surely too, like many other malaysians, we have faced our days in the saharas due to this, despite being certified malays. guess we were never certified-halal-malays though (pun intended).

thus, i think, all malaysians should stay loyal to this land and fight for a just malaysia for everyone based on those higher values and principles, and not run away to save one's skin whenever the times get tough or play the ever popular game of shifting blames when none is free of it.

if malaysia is a boat and it is sinking, then everybody must take the responsibility for it. either they sink together or make it afloat again. nobody is free of blame, sin and shame. nobody. and nobody can have a free ride either. period.

if not, to quote dr ang swee chai, one will always be a pendatang wherever one go and will always be treated like one. are you?

i for one, would rather have a loyal moron as my brother-in-arms than a genius with shifting loyalties. with the former, we shall overcome. with the latter, i might find myself standing alone when all hell break loose.

NOTA BELAKANG

have one ever considered the way the mca, dap and gerakan or mic, ppp and hindraf hit out against each other? were the punches and jibes based on any higher principles and values or were it all about the failures of each to fight and represent the rights and interests of their own races?

to me, pas is the only party in malaysia that has consistently based their policies, agendas and political visions on those higher values and principles, a more stable and inclusive ideology and more people of good character.

thus, i think, it should be considered more seriously as the party that should be given the trust to start and lead the malaysian project afresh, despite its ever poor ability in pr, packaging and advertising.

maybe, that's because they are more honest and humble and shun self-aggrandisement - something which one can find in abundance in lesser mortals and parties.

or is it that because we are so used to the raw display of power, wealth, style, bright lights and loudness as signs of ability and worth, that we lose our ability to discern sober pure gold from it's glittering cheap imitations or kaca daripada permata as the malay saying goes?
